CPSO Arrests Man for Theft of Jewelry and Cash

On March 21, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a local hotel regarding a theft.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who advised a diaper bag containing over $100,000 worth of jewelry, several electronic items, and $14,000 cash had been stolen from the pool area of the hotel.  He and his wife, with their children, were spending the weekend at the hotel and didn’t realize the diaper bag was missing until they got to their home in Texas.

After further investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Christopher P. Duplechin, 17, 3462 Duke Road, Lake Charles, and on April 26, he was arrested in connection with the theft without incident at his home.  When questioned by detectives, Duplechin confirmed he stole the items.

During a search of Duplechin’s home, the stolen jewelry and some of the cash was recovered from his bedroom.

Duplechin was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft over $1,500.

Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $100,000.

CPSO Detective Ron Breaux is the lead investigator on this case.
