CPSO Releases Results of DWI & Seatbelt Checkpoint

            On Friday, May 24, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a DWI and Seatbelt checkpoint at the 1300 block of Country Club Road in Lake Charles to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics and individuals who were not wearing their seatbelts. 

One thousand two hundred eighty-five (1285) vehicles were checked; seventeen (17) field sobriety tests were administered; sixty-two (62) citations were issued; and five (5) people were arrested for DWI.

The following citations were issued:

  • twelve (12) for no seatbelt
  • five (5) for no child restraints
  • seventeen (17) for expired motor vehicle inspection sticker
  • four (4) for expired license plate
  • two (2) for driving under suspension
  • two (2) for no motor vehicle inspection sticker
  • four (4) for no driver’s license
  • two (2) for no insurance
  • six (6) for possession of marijuana
  • two (2) for possession of methamphetamines
  • two (2) for open container
  • four (4) for DWI

Participating in this checkpoint were the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office; Louisiana State Police-Troop D; Lake Charles Police Department, and Westlake Police Department.
