C.A.T. Team Busts Meth Lab in Moss Bluff
06/21/13

On June 20, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 584 Rollins Road in Moss Bluff in an attempt to locate Melanie M. Barber, 40, who was wanted on an active warrant for possession with intent to distribute CDS IV; and creation/operation of a clandestine lab.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a disassembled methamphetamine lab outside of the residence.

The C.A.T. Team was called out and further investigation revealed Barber and Austin P. Sonnier, 23, also of 584 Rollins Road, Moss Bluff, were inside a camper trailer located in the yard of the residence and refused deputies’ orders to open the door. They were said to be cooking and using methamphetamine inside the trailer.

Due to Barber and Sonnier refusing to comply with deputies, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Anti-Crime and Tactics (ACT) Team was dispatched and arrested Barber and Sonnier without incident.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives with the C.A.T. Team conducted a search of the camper trailer and discovered a total of thirty-three (33) small meth labs, commonly referred to as “shake and bakes,” and several chemicals consistent with the creation or operation of a clandestine lab.

Ward 1 Fire Department, along with Lake Charles Fire Department and LSP Haz-Mat Team assisted on the scene. Miller Environmental was called to dismantle and clean up the meth labs.

Barber and Sonnier were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and both charged with thirty-three (33) counts of creation/operation of a clandestine lab; possession of CDS II (meth).

Their bonds are still pending and the investigation is ongoing.
