CPSO Arrests Couple for Bank Fraud

On July 8, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were contacted by the fraud investigator of a local bank in reference to numerous counterfeit checks having been deposited by Billy Ray Morris, Jr., 28, and Yolanda S. Cook, 40, both of 1134 Oak Leaf Lane, Lake Charles.

During the investigation, detectives discovered Morris and Cook deposited several counterfeit checks totaling over $68,000, into three different personal and business accounts at several bank locations between June 8 and 27. 

On August 1, Morris and Cook were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correction Center.  Cook was charged with 2 counts of bank fraud and released on a $40,000 bond set by Judge Ron Ware and Morris was charged with 1 count of bank fraud and released on a $10,000 bond set by Judge Clayton Davis.
