CPSO Arrests Two Sulphur Men for Drugs

On August 15, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a stop on an SUV at the intersection of N. Claiborne Street and W. Burton Street in Sulphur for a traffic violation.

When the deputy approached the SUV and spoke with the driver, Cody D. Harris, 33, 4106 Sherry Street, and passenger Stephen T. Mercer, 43, 675 Bryan Street, both of Sulphur, they began to act suspiciously.  After receiving consent from Harris, the deputy conducted a search of the SUV and recovered two bags of marijuana, three bags of crystal meth, 18 Klonopin pills (used to treat anxiety), 5 Xanax pills, a postal digital scale, two spoons, and 5 syringes of which 3 were filled with a cloudy liquid.

Harris and Mercer were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and both charged with possession of CDS II (methamphetamine); 2 counts of possession of CDS IV; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Harris is also charged with possession of marijuana 1stoffense; and driving under DWI suspension, and Mercer is also charged with possession of marijuana 3rdoffense.

Judge Wilford Carter set Harris’ bond at $20,000; and set Mercer’s bond at $10,000.
