CPSO Arrests Sulphur Man for Burglary and Theft

On August 12, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a house on Pine Drive in Sulphur in reference to a report of a possible burglary.

The caller advised he observed a white SUV at his neighbor’s house while the neighbors were not home.  The caller was able to get a detailed description, including the license plate of the SUV.  Upon arrival, deputies discovered the rear door of the home had been kicked in and once the homeowner arrived home he observed several items including jewelry, a crawfish pot, and a weed eater were stolen.

On August 13, CPSO detectives were contacted by a local business stating Joseph H. Mott, II, 43, 201 W. Mimosa Drive, Sulphur, had attempted to pawn a piece of jewelry matching the description of that stolen from the home on Pine Drive in Sulphur.

Detectives located Mott at his home, where they also located the white SUV observed at the burglarized home.   During a search of his home, detectives recovered several pieces of jewelry, a crawfish pot, and a weed eater, all matching the description of those stolen from the home on Pine Drive.  During further search of the home, detectives recovered more jewelry, power tools, and fishing poles that had been previously reported stolen.

During the investigation, detectives also searched a storage building at a home on W. Carlton Street in Sulphur, but discovered numerous stolen items previously stored in the storage building including a welding machine, power tools, numerous stolen fishing poles, and a shotgun had been moved to a wooded area off of Kelly Drive in Carlyss prior to their arrival.

Detectives have determined all of the stolen items found inside Mott’s home, as well as the items found in the wooded area off of Kelly Drive, are from other burglaries and are currently being  investigated to find the rightful owners.

Mott was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling; theft over $500; and criminal damage to property.

Most of the stolen jewelry, crawfish pot, and weed eater were recovered and returned to the victim on Pine Dr.  The welding machine that was recovered was also returned to its rightful owner.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges and arrests are possible.

CPSO Detective Glenn Lowery is the lead investigator on this case.
