On August 21, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a business on W. Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with an employee of the business who advised a 7800 watt generator and a tractor cultivator, both valued at over $1,500, were recently stolen off a trailer parked behind the business.
During further investigation, detectives learned Robert N. Carter, 29, 1945 Merganser Street, Lake Charles, pawned the stolen generator at a local pawn shop on August 17. Detectives also discovered on August 19, Carter brought the stolen cultivator to a local scrap yard in exchange for money.
On August 28, Carter was arrested on and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 2 counts of illegal possession of stolen things over $1,500; and 1 count of theft under $500.
Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $50,000.
The stolen generator was recovered by detectives and returned to the business.
CPSO Detective Chris Wilrye is the lead investigator on this case.
