CPSO Investigates Traffic Fatality of Parish Worker in Vinton

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a Calcasieu Parish Police Jury employee that occurred in the 2700 block of Garrie Cutoff Road in Vinton at approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning.

The preliminary investigation revealed Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Public Works operator Kent R. Laughlin, 51, Vinton, was performing maintenance on the roadway when he was struck by an SUV traveling eastbound.  Laughlin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the accident, however, as mandated by state law in all traffic fatalities, a toxicology report will be performed on the driver of the SUV.

CPSO Sgt. Chris Ramos is the lead investigator in this accident.
